As we close out 2025 and pause to reflect, we are reminded, as we are every year, how fortunate we are to have our beloved winter holidays bookmarked by Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. On Thanksgiving, we are encouraged to gather with loved ones to express shared gratitude — hugs in exchange for hands lent, heaps of mashed potatoes in return for hearts held with care throughout the year. Then, on New Year’s Eve, we are called to look ahead to our hopes, ambitions and commitments to ourselves — who do we want to be, how will we welcome blessings in the coming year?
In-between rests the season of giving, enriched by this loving reflection and invigorating future-gazing, and bolstered by the cheer and goodwill of our neighbors. As we are invited to cherish what we value most around the dinner table, our gaze falls next to considering how we can extend our hearts beyond the home in the name of holiday cheer. Whether you have time, money or care to spare, Waco’s nonprofits work tirelessly to make it simple for anyone to give back to our community. And, after a year underscored by economic uncertainty, tightening household and holiday budgets across town, loving our neighbors is more important than ever.
The following nonprofits each advertised in our May Nonprofit Issue, highlighting the unique ways they each commit to our community. Now, they are sharing the ways Wacoans can get involved in giving back. From temporarily opening your home to a furry friend to ensuring elders don’t spend the holiday alone to making sure every tree has a gift waiting on Christmas Morning, we and Waco’s nonprofits invite you to share your blessings this holiday season and beyond.

The Light the World Giving Machines are coming to Waco for the first time! Since 2017, these bright red vending machines have offered a simple, memorable way to help others — dispensing donations instead of snacks. Each purchase provides goods and services through the local nonprofits Friends for Life, Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children, Ronald McDonald House, Wreaths for Vets, Special Olympics, CARE and Heart Gift.
