“In Pursuit of Light: Women in Photography”: A Photography Exhibition

The Martin Museum of Art, 60 Baylor Ave., has created its current exhibit, “In Pursuit of Light”, an exhibit that highlights female photographers who picked up a camera to make create something bigger than themselves. Click here for more information.

Journey to Space @ The Mayborn Museum

Climb aboard and experience what it is like to live and work in space at the Mayborn Museum when Journey to Space opens on January 27, 2024 and runs until April 21. Visitors will explore the extraordinary environment of space, including the very real dangers that astronauts face during their missions above Earth.

A New Moon Rises

The Mayborn Museum, 1300 S University Parks Dr., is hosting a new exhibit filled with highly detailed photographs of the moon. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore dramatic landscapes, majestic mountain ranges, lunar poles and much more.

Thursday, February 8th

2K24 Car/Truck Extravaganza 

All things cars and trucks are coming to the Backyard Bar Stage and Grill, 511 S 8th St., starting at 6 p.m. Visit with local car and truck clubs while enjoying food from The Backyard. This event is free and open to the public.

Cameron Park Road Ride 

Join Bicycle World Waco, 112 Mary Ave #1, for their Thursday ride at 6 p.m. Start at Bicycle World for a conversational, no-drop 2 mile ride to Cameron Park, where pacing will transition to the personal preference of each rider. Tail light and helmets are required. Click here for more information

Geeks Who Drink

Get your facts right because it’s Trivia Night at Truelove’s Bar, located at 414 Franklin Ave. This evening consists of 60 questions over a two-hour period starting at 7 p.m. There are plenty of chances to win free drinks and prizes throughout the evening!

Darts Tournament 

Clicks’ Billiards, 1200 Richland Dr., is hosting its weekly darts tournament starting at 7 p.m.

Boot Scootin’ Dance Club 

Dance the night away to live music from Bobby Dean & Timeless Country at the Boot Scootin’ Dance Club. From 7—9:15 p.m, spend your night line dancing, doing the polka, the two-step waltzes and if you’re lucky, the chicken dance. This event is located at Sul Ross Senior Center, 1414 Jefferson Avenue. 

Trivia Night

It’s Thursday which means it’s Trivia Night at Brotherwell Brewing, located at 400 E Bridge St. Trivia is from 7—9:30 p.m. and each week covers different trivia topics. Be sure to bring a team that has a wide variety of knowledge!

Friday, February 9th 

Artist Talk: Steve Scott

Local Waco photographer Steve Scott will be at Cultivate 7Twelve, 712 Austin Ave, for his Artist Talk. From 6—8 p.m., come learn about his creative process, and hear about the heart behind his recent showcase, “Alchemy of Light”. 

Wheel Throwing Workshop

Black Oak Art, 1619 Franklin Ave, is hosting a wheel throwing workshop. From 6—8 p.m, join in as one of Black Oak’s expert instructors guides participants through the basics of throwing on a pottery wheel. Whether it be a cup, vase, plate, bowl or something in between, come create your own masterpiece!

Saturday, February 10th

Polar Plunge 2024

Head over to Hawaiian Falls, 900 West Lake Shore Dr., from 9—10 a.m. to take part in the 2024 Polar Plunge. Freeze for a reason in this fundraiser event. All proceeds will go towards local Special Olympics organizations in Central Texas. 

45 Annual Cross Country Trail Run 

This trail run is the first race in the Huaco Cuatro Trail Run series. The trail run will start at Redwood Shelter, 2300 Cameron Park Dr., and each course will run through the trails in Cameron Park. From 9—11 a.m., run along trails such as Powerline, Mix Master, Vortex, etc. 

Lunar New Year Market 

The Asian Leaders Network is partnering up with the Waco Downtown Farmers Market to host their special Lunar New Year Market. From 9 a.m—1 p.m., at 500 Washington Ave., come support local Asian leaders, artisans and vendors in the Waco community.

The Waco Downtown Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m.1 p.m. and is located at 500 Washington Ave. This market features locally grown and produced goods from farmers and artisans within 150 miles of Waco. There is always live music and a featured local organization each week. For more information regarding upcoming events and weekly vendors visit their website.

Warehouse Clearance Sale

Junkyard Jewel Boutique, 1708 Austin Ave., is hosting a warehouse clearance sale. From 10 a.m—5 p.m., Junkyard Jewel will offer lots of sales, free mimosas and light snacks for customers to enjoy. 

Mardi Gras Patio Party & Crawfish Boil 

Head over to Barnett’s Whiskey House, 420 Franklin Ave., for their Mardi Gras Patio Party. From 12—11 p.m., Barnett’s is offering customers a feast, featuring plenty of crawfish, Mardi Gras themed drinks, live music and patio games. Mardi Gras party attire is encouraged.
