February is Black History Month and Waco is hosting several events in observance starting this weekend. African American History Self-Guided Tour
The Baylor University Institute for Oral History and Texas Collection curated a self-guided tour throughout Waco to educate about Black History in Waco. This event begins February 1 and will run until the 29th. To start the tour, visit their website.
“Moon Over Buffalo”
Silent House Theatre Company is hosting its first show of the year “Moon Over Buffalo” until the 4th. Shows will be hosted at the Jubilee Theatre, 1319 N 15th St. To see showtimes and to purchase tickets visit their website.
“Luisa Fernanda” by Baylor Opera Theater
Baylor Opera Theater presents “Luisa Fernanda,” a Spanish opera, until Sunday. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here.
“Journey to Space”
Climb aboard and experience what it is like to live and work in space at the Mayborn Museum when “Journey to Space” opens on January 27, 2024. Visitors will explore the extraordinary environment of space, including the very real dangers that astronauts face during their missions above Earth.
Martin Museum of Art Exhibitions
The Martin Museum of Art, 60 Baylor Ave., has two exhibits, “The Darkest Light” and “Biennial Faculty Exhibition” that are free and open to the public! For hours and information about each exhibit, visit their website.
“Alchemy of Light Showcase”
Join Cultivate 7Twelve, 712 Austin Ave., to celebrate the opening of this magnificent showcase! Steve Scott is from Waco, Texas, and is an enthusiastic world traveler on the hunt for beautiful landscapes in their most perfectly lit setting. Come experience a few of Steve’s vivid images, and transport yourself through time, place, and light.
“Tears of Relief” at 507 Gallery
507 Gallery, located in Thrst Coffee Shop, 1500 Colcord Ave., has a new exhibit! This exhibit features photos made on Polaroid film. “Tears of Relief” is free and open to the public and you might as well grab a coffee while you look!
“A New Moon Rises”
The Mayborn Museum, 1300 S University Parks Dr., is hosting a new exhibit filled with highly detailed photographs of the moon. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore dramatic landscapes, majestic mountain ranges, lunar poles and much more.
Thursday, February 1
Once school and the workday are done, enjoy some time with your favorite people at your favorite place – the West Waco library, 5301 Bosque Blvd. from 6:30—7:30 p.m.! Listen to stories, sing songs together, and maybe even play with puppets, so pop in for some fun.
Boot Scootin’ Dance Club
If you’re a cowboy, cowgirl or someone who enjoys country music and dancing, the Boot Scootin’ Dance Club is the place to be. Styles of dance include two steps, polka, waltzes and a special appearance—the chicken dance. Guests will meet at the Sul Ross Senior Center, 1414 Jefferson Avenue, from 7—9:15 p.m. There is a $6 cover charge.
Clicks’ Billiards, 1200 Richland Dr., is hosting its weekly darts tournament starting at 7 p.m.
It’s Thursday which means it’s Trivia Night at Brotherwell Brewing, located at 400 E Bridge St. Trivia is from 7—9:30 p.m. and each week covers different trivia topics. Be sure to bring a team that has a wide variety of knowledge!
Baylor WBB v. Texas
Cheer on the Lady Bears at Foster Pavilion, 650 S University Parks Dr., as they battle against the Texas Longhorns. The game begins at 7:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased here.

Kids College Fridays
McLennan Community College, located at 4601 N 19th St., is hosting Kids College Friday every Friday at 9:30 a.m. until May 17th. Your kids can take culinary, arts, gardening and computer classes for $115 per month. For registration information visit their website or call 254-299-8888.
Alice in Wonderland Tea Party
Take a journey to Wonderland with YOUtopia Essentials, 1701 Austin Ave.! This tea party will serve finger food and sweet treats with the purchase of a $10 ticket. Dressing up is strongly encouraged and the event begins at 6 p.m.!
First Friday Artisan Market
Cultivate 7Twelve Gallery, 712 Austin Ave., is hosting a one-night pop-up market! There will be paintings, sculptures, crafts and handcrafted gifts from local artisans. This event is free and open to the public and is from 6—9 p.m.

Baylor Symphonic Band Concert
Baylor’s Symphonic Band is hosting a free concert at Jones Concert Hall, 110 Baylor Ave. The concert is open to the public and begins at 7:30 p.m.

Waco Downtown Farmers Market
The Waco Downtown Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m.—1 p.m. The market features locally grown and produced goods from farmers and artisans within 150 miles of Waco, plus live music and a featured local organization each week. The market is located in the McLennan County Courthouse parking lot at 500 Washington Ave. Visit their website to view a calendar of upcoming events.
Family Abuse Center Faith Summit
The Family Abuse Center Faith Summit, located at 1001 N 18th St., is tackling the tough issues surrounding family abuse through this summit. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. and tickets are $10.
You Can Sew!
Ms. Judy from Art Center Waco, 701 S 8th St., is hosting a Valentine-themed sewing workshop! For only $15 your kiddo can create their own heart or a felt envelope for their Valentine.
