While the city is under shelter-in-place until April 7, we know that many of you are attempting to create a new normal of working at home and maybe even homeschooling your children. Our hearts are with those who have even lost their jobs due to the circumstances. Everyone is coping in different ways and finding a way to adapt and adjust to our new world. This is a series where our fellow WACOAN contributors and staff share their personal stories and updates on how they’re adapting to these times.
Brittany Ross, Production Manager
1. How are you adapting at home? What are you doing to pass the time, how are you handling homeschool, work etc.?
While I am not in the office, I am still working remotely when I can, uploading blogs such as this one, counting up the Best of Waco votes, getting the website up to date with the April issue and working on social media posts. In-between work, I have been spending a big portion of my days outside with my daughter. We have gone on daily walks with our neighbor friends, of course at the appropriate social distant, spent many hours in our swing on the porch and have even played in a makeshift swimming pool made out of a storage bucket. With how nice the weather has been, we even got to take bluebonnet pictures and have a couple backyard picnics!
When I have a moment to myself, I have been trying out some new recipes. I love cooking, it’s one of my biggest hobbies! This past weekend, I tried my hand at some homemade cinnamon rolls. They were a BIG hit in our house! Up next, I think I’m going to make some coffee cake muffins.
Another big project I’m hoping to tackle is reorganizing the smaller spaces in my home, such as my daughter’s dresser drawers and our linen closet. What better time for some spring cleaning! After being inspired by a recent feature we did in the WACOAN, “What’s in Your Pantry?” I have already tackled our pantry and am very pleased with the way it turned out!
2. What new game, movie or TV show have you played/watched that you might recommend to others?
With a baby at home, we don’t watch too much TV outside of the occasional Little Baby Bum, but after Addie is down for the night, we have been re-watching How I Met Your Mother. A classic in our house. During the day, when Adalyn is napping, I just started watching Little Fires Everywhere. So far so good!
We are big Netflix/Hulu junkies, so if you’ve got some good recommendations on a new (or old) binge-worthy show, drop them in the comments!
