Halloween Sensory Table

A fun craft for your little ones this spooky season

My kids love being outside. Ever since they were little babies, outside was always where we could go to calm down, and now even several years later it’s where we spend almost every evening. Now that the weather is cooling down, even mom and dad are enjoying outside time now. Our backyard is full of all the kid things; trampoline, playhouse, water table, chalk, swing, faux flower garden; but my daughter’s absolute favorite thing to play with is her IKEA sensory table. As a “creative” person, setting the table up is also a favorite of my own!

With Halloween right around the corner, or “spooky season” as we call it, I put together a spooky table and it has been a huge hit! One side is full of pumpkin while the other is a hot chocolate bar.
You’ll need:
  • 5 lbs of white rice (uncooked)
  • Orange food coloring
  • Plastic spiders
  • Plastic clear container
  • Permanent marker
  • 5 lbs of black beans (uncooked)
  • White pompoms
  • Clean, empty Starbucks cups
  • Measuring scoops
To make the orange rice, in sections pour the rice into a gallon-sized bag and mix with orange food coloring until you get the desired color. Pour onto wax paper and let dry.
Using the permanent marker, draw a pumpkin’s face onto the clear container and let dry.
Once the rice and the container are dry, you can put it all together. Pour the rice in the bottom of the container on one side of the table, add in the spiders, some scoops and the pumpkin containers.
On the opposite side of the table, pour the black beans and place the pompoms on top and add in some scoops.
Let their imaginations go to work!
Happy Spooky Season!
