Congratulations to Texas Oncology–Waco for winning the Best of Waco award for oncology practice and Texas Oncology–Waco oncologist Carl Chakmakjian, who has earned the Best of Waco award for oncologist for the fourth year in-a-row. Texas Oncology oncologists Thomas J. Harris and Ofobuike N. Okani placed second and third, respectively, for the oncologist award. Patients deserve access to leading-edge cancer care, the confidence to fight and the resources to keep fighting. Texas Oncology provides comprehensive, evidence-based treatment at two locations in Waco. Both locations provide medical oncology, including chemotherapy and infusion. Radiation therapy is provided at the location on Hwy 6. Diagnostic imaging, laboratory services and pharmacies are close at hand to make the process more manageable. Support groups, financial counseling and genetic risk evaluation and testing are also available. Texas Oncology is involved in more than 1,000 clinical trials, Phases I-IV, focused on preventing and treating cancer and its recurrence. Knowledgeable physicians, nurse practitioners and other healthcare providers work as a team to customize treatment for each patient. They have years of experience in treating cancer and blood disorders and remain by the patient’s side throughout treatment. Most patients receive care in an outpatient setting so they can stay near their support system of family and friends. Texas Oncology has also expanded its telemedicine service to ensure ongoing access to care for patients. Texas Oncology provides compassionate care for more than 55,000 new cancer patients each year through an extensive network of more than 490 physicians and 210 locations throughout the state.
