Chris and Crystal Grider opened Taste by Kissing Tree, an upscale downtown restaurant, one year ago and are pleased with its success and proud to be voted Best New Restaurant by Wacoan readers. The couple branched out from their original location, Kissing Tree Vineyards, in Eddy with this new restaurant. The two locations are distinctive in what they offer in food selections and in atmosphere. Taste is cozy, quiet and offers more high-end, casual dining with a choice of over 120 wines along with drinks like coffee, soft drinks and ciders. On the menu, customers will find everything from brunch to soups, salads and appetizers to the famous Tomahawk steak — a steak from cattle that are crossbred with Wagyu and Angus. Brunch offerings include everything from the sweet to the savory with a variety of waffles like a s’mores waffle or a Wagyu brisket waffle and so much more. Entrees include a wide variety of pastas like gnocchi gorgonzola, chicken piccata to a rabbit ragu, burgers, steaks and sides like truffle fries, mac and cheese and more. Other notable items on the menu include a selection of fondues, calamari, mussels, sausage-stuffed quail, roasted beets and foie gras. The couple’s original location, Kissing Tree Vineyards near the 130-acre farm owned by Crystal’s mom, Dorothy Wuebker Johnson who helps on the farm and at the shop, is located about 10 minutes southeast of Eddy in the old Eddy bank building. It is a contrast to the downtown location and notably more musical. It has a dog-friendly Tuscan patio, a gift shop/bar for wine tasting, a live-music hall. The comfy atmosphere offers a variety of padded couches and chairs and regular dining tables to enjoy the music and art. Visit Taste Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
