Helping Women — One Second Chance at a Time

With a mission to support the marginalized women of Central Texas in recovery from substance abuse, Sunshine Recovery House provides a second chance for someone’s daughter, granddaughter, niece, sister, wife or mother. The Board and Executive Director serve the organization as volunteers. They’ve been there, so they know how important the work they do at Sunshine Recovery House is. The staff and volunteers use their life experiences with the 12 Steps and education to help women start their journey of freedom. One of the first things needed in the path to recovery is stability. Sunshine Recovery House provides residents with an affordable, safe, clean space to live and find independence. If needed, they help supply food and basic living essentials. In most cases, sources of addiction can be traced back to traumatic experiences. In order for people to heal from these experiences and learn healthy coping strategies to live sober, they need accountability and counseling. Sunshine requires residents to attend an Intensive Outpatient Program and actively work the 12 Steps of Recovery. With a goal to help women not just overcome addiction, but to take their place as thriving contributors to society, they collaborate with local businesses to find employment opportunities for residents. While the house is self-sustaining with the affordable rent received from residents, the 100-year-old home needs substantial repairs. They are so appreciative of monthly and one-time donors to be able to upgrade heaters, fix plumbing issues and afford cleaning supplies and pest control. They are also thankful for time and talents shared at weekly house meetings and wonderful food provided at monthly family dinners by faithful community members.
