Southwest Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics strives to provide the highest quality treatment for all of Central Texas, including serious and minor joint pain. Dr. Juan Rodrigo and Dr. Garrison Benton excel in providing the best possible operative and non-operative care to the arthritic population of Central Texas. Their expertise ranges from total knee replacements, total hip replacements, articular cartilage defects, partial knee replacements and non-operative care for joint pain. In February of 2012 Dr. Rodrigo brought his practice to Waco from Spartanburg, South Carolina. Over the course of his orthopedic career, Dr. Rodrigo has served as a professor in the Department of Orthopedics at the University of California – Davis and has been heavily involved in research involving arthritis of both the knee and hip. Dr. Rodrigo has also incorporated his years of training in orthopedics to develop a wellness program designed for patients with arthritis. Dr. Rodrigo has partnered with the YMCA of Waco to help make these programs available to the people of Central Texas. Dr. Benton, a graduate of Baylor University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, attended medical school at Texas Tech School of Medicine in Lubbock and completed his orthopedic residency training at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple. After five years of general orthopedic training, Dr. Benton spent an additional year specializing in the treatment of hip and knee arthritis at the Cleveland Clinic near Miami, Florida. While there, he received extensive training in the direct anterior total hip replacement technique. Dr. Benton is deeply knowledgeable about osteoarthritis, the wear and tear inside joints, and specializes in the treatment of chronic hip and knee pain. Along with Dr. Rodrigo they strive to provide the best care, both operative and non-operative, to all of their patients throughout the Central Texas area.
