“Food, Glorious Food” … it’s all I’ve been singing in my head (thanks, Mama, for all of the musicals growing up and endless car rides with “Oliver Twist!” playing in the background!), because when I looked through all of our stunning editorial photos this month, all I could think about was — you guessed it — FOOD! This month’s magazine has your next date night, girls’ night, kids’ night, family night, dessert night and “for the heck of it” night set because Waco has everything your heart desires when it comes to loving Waco! Start making your list now. From downtown Waco to midtown and surrounding areas, I am so proud of the city I call home and get to showcase every month.
Our cover image was hard to choose this month. With so many choices, from Clay Pot’s sesame chicken dish featured on page 116 with a side of rice and iced coffee to Huaco Lounge’s amazing cinnamon churros designed like feathers featured on page 114 to the kid friendly darling photos at Heritage Creamery on page 99. It is always an awesome feeling when we have so many choices! Ultimately, we chose Maria Mezcaleria which won BEST OF WACO for New Restaurant. It’s located downtown on Austin Avenue, at the bottom of the Waco Hippodrome. The first time I went there was after a preview party at Anthem Stories for Deep in the Heart Film Festival (renamed Waco Independent Film Festival). The girls and I shared the tostaditas that are on the cover, and I had the tacos too. It was super delicious! And apparently you, our readers, think it is the BEST too. Check out the BEST OF WACO Food and Entertainment winners starting with the winners’ profiles on page 78 and Editor’s Picks on page 108. Let our magazine be your reason to get out and about this fall, and for more go to magazine.wacoan.com for past years’ winners and picks. Plus, check out our new LOVE WACO section for even more places to discover!
As always, our team is hard at work finding you all the events in town and Waco is filled with them in October. I know you can personally find me and my daughter at a Baylor game and Friday Night Lights, and we love going to the HOT Fair and Silobration every year. Be sure to check out our Short List of events on page 21 where we highlight many of the top events in Waco. For a full list of what’s happening in Waco, check out our calendar online and our weekly Top Things to do in Waco this Weekend blog. Fall is in the air~
Until next month~
