March of Dimes

A Fighting Chance for Every Baby

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant loss. The organization helps moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. If something goes wrong, the team provides information and comfort to families. The March of Dimes team researches problems that threaten babies and work to prevent them. Through events like March for Babies and Signature Chefs, the March of Dimes and Central Texas volunteers raise funds that help discover genetic causes of birth defects, promote newborn screening and educate medical professionals and the community about best practices for healthy pregnancies. The organization has supported research for surfactant therapy to treat respiratory distress and helped initiate regional neonatal intensive care for premature and sick babies. The recent Folic Acid Campaign achieved a dramatic reduction in the incidence of neural tube defects and birth defects of the brain and spine.
