Finding a Friend is Easier Than You Think
As an advocate for the community goal of achieving a no-kill status, the Humane Society of Central Texas provides adoption, rescue and foster opportunities for the homeless animals at the City of Waco Animal Shelter as well as community education regarding responsible pet ownership. The partnership between the Humane Society and the City of Waco Animal Shelter saved 4,965 lives in 2017 — a 94.54 percent live exit rate. If you’re looking for a new pet, visit the shelter first. If you can’t adopt, consider sponsoring, donating, volunteering or becoming a foster home to help them save lives. The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are so many ways to help including by attending the many events they have planned this year. Save the date for the Summer Car Show taking place July 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a fun show presented by Late Model Restoration and adoption specials all day. The show is free to attend and only $20 to enter a car. Join them July 28 for the Howl at the Moon 5k starting at 10 p.m. and during a full moon, of course. And mark the calendar for the popular Wine and Food Festival taking place October 13. For the first time ever, the 19th annual Wine and Food Festival will be an evening event held from 6 to 10 p.m. at Indian Spring Park.
