Equine-Assisted Activities & Therapies
The Heart of Texas Therapeutic Riding Center in West, was formed in 2000 by Shirley Wills with a mission to establish a place for children and adults to network, a place where horses and dogs and the great outdoors could work its magic with children and adults with disabilities. Those involved are like a big family and the staff feels they’ve made a difference in the lives of some pretty incredible children, adults and animals. The only Special Olympics for Equestrians in the Waco area was established by them about 11 years ago, and they still participate. Offering horseback, massage and aquatics, they have a covered arena, a large outdoor arena, a small therapy pool and a sensory trail complete with a small ropes course.
