Friends for Life

Hope for the Generations

Friends for Life was founded in Waco and is celebrating its 30th Anniversary. The charity began serving the elderly and people with disabilities in a tiny, one-room office on Waco Drive with one unpaid employee, a budget of nothing, and a handful of clients. Today the charity is housed in a 28,000 square-foot facility and offices in six other cities, with 79 paid employees and a budget of two and a half million dollars. The founder and executive director, Inez Russell said, “God makes our work possible. Because of Him, we’ve been able to help thousands of people in the past 30 years. God sent talented people with huge hearts — a dedicated staff, wonderful board members, amazing volunteers and donors who have become friends. We work together to make sure the most vulnerable live the fullest life possible.” Friends for Life provides; Adult Day Care (nursing care, meals, and activities for adults who are unable to stay home alone); Guardianship (court-appointed to advocate and provide care for people who cannot care for themselves and have no family); Money Management (paying bills for vulnerable people to protect them from exploitation); Independent Living Services (organize volunteers who help fragile, vulnerable people age in place); Quality of Life Programs (making sure people know someone cares); Life Skills Training (teaching adults with developmental disabilities in nursing homes how to be as independent as possible). Friends for Life’s newest fundraising project is a Tool Thrift Shop opening soon at 430 Lake Air Drive to help fund its work and to provide space for additional life skills training for clients. Clients will have the opportunity to make and sell gift items keeping all of the proceeds from those sales. Please consider donating tools or volunteering to help. For more information, contact them by email or phone.
