Helping those who help others — CharityChampions.org
For over 132 years, TFNB Your Bank for Life has been helping the people of Central Texas, and in 2014 they expanded that philosophy to include helping those that help others. Charity Champions was started as a way to give back to the community they love. Since the inception of the program, TFNB had annually selected six nonprofits as Charity Champions; however, with the onset of COVID-19 they decided to make the most recent Champions part of a two-year program. It has been affirming to see communities re-open and return to normalcy, and they commend the efforts that remained in place to meet the ongoing needs in the area especially when this required making major shifts in how services were rendered. These are the 2020-2021 Charity Champions, and a brief description of what they do: The Art Center of Waco is a nonprofit that serves as a creative force in the community for teaching, displaying, promoting, and preserving vital, diverse visual art that enriches and inspires all. The Dr Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute showcase the history of the soda industry to illustrate how anyone with a good idea can launch a business. It also serves as an iconic Waco landmark and tourist destination.Esther’s Closet is a program that assists women who are transitioning back into the labor force by providing them with skills and a professional wardrobe. Starting in 2021, Esther’s Closet clients will have the opportunity for workforce training and employment certificates. Klaras Center for Families provides comprehensive services to the children, adolescents, young adults and families in the most trauma-sensitive, culturally sensitive, safe healing environment. Legacy Family Ministries deepens the roots of individuals with God’s truth so that their foundation as a married couple will be developed for the sake of the family institution. NeighborWorks Waco is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build stronger neighborhoods through homeownership, quality rental housing and community building initiatives. STARS Book Clubs is a network of volunteer mentors that meet weekly over lunch with students to talk, eat and practice reading books aloud.
