Advocacy Center

From Victims to Victors

Last year, the Advocacy Center offered services and support to over 12,000 victims of violent crime in six central Texas counties through their three programs. The Victims Center offers case management, counseling, a 24/7 crisis hotline and sexual assault advocates for victim support at hospitals. At both Waco hospitals, survivors of sexual assault receive sexual assault forensic exams (S.A.F.E.) from specially trained nurses. These exams are provided by our S.A.F.E. Coordinator, Mickie Dye, as well as our five on-call S.A.F.E. nurses. The Children’s Advocacy Center provides a safe place for children to tell their story by providing forensic interviews and medical examinations. Children who are sexually abused get comprehensive medical examinations and care by our Medical Advisor and Child Sexual Abuse Examiner, Dr. Soo Battle. Prevention and Education provides programming in schools and communities to change attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that may lead to the perpetration of sexual violence.
