Advocacy Center for Crime Victims & Children

From Victims to Victors

If you are familiar with the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children, you know they offer services and support to survivors of violent crime in six Central Texas counties. But did you know they are also working to prevent these crimes from happening? The Prevention and Education Department at the Advocacy Center offers groups, classes and presentations to area schools and other organizations with the goal of preventing sexual violence. Educators in the department see nearly 12,000 people a year in their programming, which is primarily made up of K-12 students in schools and other youth-based organizations. The goal of this programming is to see meaningful change in the attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that may lead to the perpetration of sexual violence. Sessions, lead by trained Prevention Educators, are activity-based and cover topics like: respect, empathy, stereotypes, emotions, healthy relationships, personal boundaries, consent, conflict resolution, etc. For more information, contact Aleigh Ascherl, at aascherl@advocacycntr.org
