From Victims to Victors
At the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children, professional staff provide hope and healing to all survivors of sexual assault and other violent crimes in six Central Texas counties. The Advocacy Center recently moved to their new, larger home at 3312 Hillcrest Drive. This move was made possible by many community-minded individuals coming together to make a dream come true. One of the benefits of the larger building is that it helps staff provide services to victims more efficiently. The building also provides the availability of two waiting rooms which helps prevent children from coming in contact with their alleged perpetrators. Another exciting plus is that the Waco Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit continues to be co-located with the agency. The Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children provides forensic interviews and medical exams to children under age 18 in a safe place for them to tell their story. Additionally, case management, unlimited counseling sessions, a 24/7 crisis hotline and specially trained sexual assault forensic examiners, who perform exams at both Waco hospitals, are services offered by the Advocacy Center. Educators also give presentations at area schools and organizations to help change attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that may lead to sexual violence. All services are free. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram @AdvocacyWaco or visit their website at advocacycntr.org and help victims become victors.
Open House coming soon in September. Visit advocacycntr.org for event information.
