An Autumn Night Out in Waco

Fashionable style for the cooler weather

As you sip your cocktail or warm spiced latte on a rooftop overlooking Waco, you can rest easy knowing you’re staying warm while also being stylish. With jackets complementing your look and long sleeves that still give you a figure, fall clothing doesn’t have to be baggy and boring this season.

Layers are important in our Texas climate. The weather can range by 20 degrees on any given day, so it’s essential to have pieces that don’t cover up your look. Get the layers without the bulk with either a white quilted jacket or a blush faux wool vest. These bright colors and textures add dimension to any outfit and are great to throw on when the air becomes cooler for a meal on the patio of a downtown restaurant, visiting a pumpkin patch or cheering on your favorite sports team.

For happy hour, a concert or date night, the midnight blue Wild Pony dress is a go-to. According to InStyle magazine, a popular color this fall and winter is cobalt blue. With long sleeves and mesh material, this piece is perfect for the fluctuating temperatures. The speckled pattern adds a fun flare to the dress and looks great with simple gold jewelry such as chokers and hoop earrings.

If you don’t gravitate towards dresses in your wardrobe, we have two great pant options —and in Texas, blue jeans are a must. Before you pull out those bootcut Wranglers, a high-rise flare jean is a much better fit for this season’s trends. With no holes and a raw hem, these jeans go with anything and look fantastic over booties. Another option this fall are these burgundy high-rise pants. The straight leg fit pairs well with patterned tops.

Now that we have our base layers, it’s time to add the best part — the accessories. Silk scarves are all the rage right now and can be used in a multitude of ways. You can tie it around your neck, wrap it with your hair or tie it directly onto your purse. Speaking of headpieces, don’t be afraid to add one in. A pink fascinator or a suede hat is great for elevating your outfit while conveniently keeping your hair back for when the autumn wind kicks up. With warm fall colors such as burgundy, orange, neutral pinks and dark blues, gold jewelry best complements these swatches but don’t be afraid to go bold with a statement piece that highlights a color in the outfit.

Though the sun is setting earlier and the temperature is dropping, that does not mean you have to bundle up in your house. Explore Dichotomy or Tandem’s rooftops, venture out to the many happy hours offered across town and take the outdoor seating when available because when it’s been 100 degrees for over two months, it’s time to enjoy being outside again.
