Ongoing, October–December 2009 : From October to December, Yoplait will have special lids to be redeemed for 10 cents a lid, up to $1.5 million. Those collected in the Central Texas area and mailed by December 31 will be credited to the local Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliate. Drop lids off at the office, 2911 Herring, Suite 201 or mail to P.O. Box 8504 Waco, TX 76714.

Oct 17 (Sat, 1 to 5 p.m., Art Center Waco) : Benefiting the Waco Humane Society, the Wine & Food Festival will feature wine from more than 60 wineries, food tasting from more than 30 restaurants, beer tasting, H-E-B Cooking Connection demonstrations and a live music performance by Mustard Seed and Sloppy Joe. Back again is the popular “Cork Pull” and silent auction.

Oct 29 (Thurs, 12 p.m., Waco Suspension Bridge) : The Family Abuse Center’s “Day of Remembrance” remembers individuals who have lost their lives to domestic violence, celebrates the survivors and brings awareness to the community. Purple balloons released will recognize those lost to domestic violence in 2008. Mayor Virginia DuPuy will declare October Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
