Waco Wonderland: Winter in the South

By Richelle Braswell

Waco Wonderland is a winter version of your favorite holidays and Waco events rolled into one. Love the fair? They have a Ferris Wheel and petting zoo. Love the fireworks on the 4th of July or New Year’s Eve? They’ve got that too. Love the food at every holiday? Food trucks are aplenty. Love the Arts Fest? Shop at the artist market. Love parades? The Waco Holiday Parade will kick off the event this weekend. Have I mentioned the carriage ride or Santa’s house or the ice rink or the Cocoa Crawl? I could go on. And the Waco tree lighting ceremony is a great way to kick off the season with friends and family!

Down here in good ol’ Waco, we don’t get to see snow fall that often, but with Waco Wonderland we get to experience that feeling of joy and magic that comes with the drifting white flakes. As a bonus, we get all the cheer without the freezing temperatures! What else could we ask for?

Waco Wonderland begins this weekend, and I’m ready for it! Now just to decide on what to do first. Venture down Austin Avenue in search of the best hot cocoa? Or hop on the Ferris Wheel to see the events from the best seat? I know some of you will be there. What’s first on your agenda?

Below is a brief look at what is happening this opening weekend. Waco Wonderland is located at Heritage Square at 300 Austin Avenue in Downtown Waco and is a community event organized by the City of Waco, the Downtown Public Improvement District, City Center Waco and various community organizations.
