The Hewitt Public Library is an active community hub that encourages personal enrichment, meaningful collaboration and content creation. The HPL provides a variety of activities and civic engagement functions in addition to information access in multiple formats. The library is a leader in early childhood literacy programs and recently was awarded the national distinction of a Family Place Library. The Family Place Libraries Project is a network of children’s librarians who believe literacy begins at birth and that libraries can help build healthy communities through healthy families. The new building has created an expanded space for community engagement, presented opportunities that connect people with their local and global community and provided a place where people can give back by volunteering. As the one-year anniversary of opening the new facility approaches, the library has added more programs for adults, teens and children, and increased traditional literature selections for adults, teens and children.
