Shiner is home to the fourth-largest craft brewery in America
In Shiner, Texas, beer isn’t just a beverage. It’s a way of life. Shiner residents love their beer, but they’re willing to share with visitors.
The town is home to Spoetzl Brewery, the oldest independent brewery in Texas. Shiner is also called “The Cleanest Little City in Texas,” and locals are proud of their spotless facilities. So if you’re searching for a unique day trip, travel a little less than 200 miles to visit Shiner and the fourth-largest craft brewery in America. Each Monday through Friday, visitors can take a tour of the gift shop and Spoetzl Brewery, where each bottle of beer is handcrafted and aged to guarantee its smooth flavor. After sipping a fresh Shiner, visitors can learn the history behind the beer.
“The brewery has done so much for the community and brought tourism here,” said Anne Marie Raabe, public relations representative at Spoetzl. “Here in Shiner, the brewery belongs to the town. It’s in our backyard.”
There’s more to Shiner than fine beer. In this tiny town of 2.4 square miles, you’ll find the history is rich and flavorful. Shiner was originally known as “Half Moon” before Henry B. Shiner donated land along the railroad in the late 19th century. This donation fostered a change in Shiner’s cotton-dependent economy.
