RG3 talks about Baylor and beyond
On the day that Wacoan writer Kevin Tankersley was scheduled to meet with Robert Griffin III, the newly-minted Heisman winner had back-to-back-to-back interviews scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m., some in person, some over the phone. A reporter from San Antonio was in town to talk to him. The legendary sports writer Dave Campbell was in the Simpson Athletics and Academic Center for a sit-down with Griffin. Everyone wanted a few minutes with Waco’s newest celebrity. Griffin’s schedule — oh, yeah, he still had football practice to fit in there somewhere as well, although finals were over, so there was no worry about classes — was so full that The New York Times and Washington Post were told, “Sorry, he’s booked.”
This being the education issue of the Wacoan, Tankersley asked Griffin about how he managed to graduate from high school a semester early, graduate from college in three years and be one semester away from earning a master’s degree. And have law school on the horizon.
WACOAN: You have already graduated with a degree in political science and a minor in communications. How did you manage that along with your football obligations?
Griffin: The biggest factor was in the summer. We’re not required to be here, but we’re strongly influenced to stay over the summer as football players. A lot of guys take one class, so what I decided to do was use the summer to try and get ahead. I took three or four classes in the summer — two in the first session, two in the second session.
